Phillip Aal Family

 Philip Aal, according to SC Provincial records, arrived 5 October 1766 on the Brittania, sailing from Amsterdam (Council Journal 32:842). Being  single, he was awarded a 100 acre bounty grant, located near the present day Newberry- Laurens County line.
Philip Aal is believed to be Johann Philipp Aal, born 27 October 1748 in Unter Auerbach, Duchy of Württemberg. According to the German Church records, Johann Philipp and Christina Catharine Aal went with parents to the new land. The parents of Johann Philipp Aal were Hans Adam Aal, born 18 September 1719,  who married 23 January 1748, Catharine Wäydner.
John Phillip Aal married Anna Margaretha Emigin (Amick), according to the  baptismal fraktur of the son, Johann Herrman Aal ("Vital Data from SC German Fraktur," SCMAR X(1), 1982). Anna Margaretha Amick was a daughter  of Conrad Amick. John Phillip Aals' family lived on the southeast side of  the town of Little Mountain.
The Aull family has been described by Sara Aull in "From Palatinate of the Rhine to South Carolina," (1991). Members of the present day family  spell the name "Aull," "All," or "Alls".

 I. Catherine Aal is said to have been the wife of Johann Heinrich (Henry) Kunkle, Sr. They moved to Georgia and settled in the "Dutchtown" community in Henry County, GA. They are buried in Old Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Henry County, GA. The family of Henry Kunkle was described by Mrs. C. R. (Betty)  Conkle, Sr. in "First Families of Henry County," (1983).

 D. Christian Kunkle, born 17 February 1803, died 6 January 1898, married  1838, Elizabeth (Eliza) M. Foster, born 1812, died 1886. Both buried Old Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Henry County, GA.
 E. Roseanna Kunkle, born 2 March 1804, died 3 January 1887, married William All, born 22 June 1799, died 17 December 1880, son of George Aull and Mary Margaret Minick. Both buried Old Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Henry County, GA.
 F. David Kunkle, born about 1806, died 11 March 1894, married Christina Black, born 1808, daughter of Henry Black and wife Susan M. Lived in Lexington County, SC.
 G. George C. Kunkle, born about 1810, married Mary (Polly) Lever, born  19 November 1814, daughter of George Lever and Mary Anna Magdalene Chapman.  Lived in Newberry County, SC, and said to have moved to GA.
 H. Andrew Kunkle, born about 1812, died 22 July 1878, married Mary C. Aull, born about 1812, died 6 March 1882, Henry County, GA, daughter of George Aull and Mary Margaret Minick. Both buried Old Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Henry County, GA.
 I. Harmon Kunkle, born 25 May 1814, died 7 August 1884, married wife named  Catherine, born 29 December 1814, died 1 October 1887. Both buried Old Mt.  Carmel Cemetery, Henry County, GA.
 J. William A. Kunkle, born 25 October 1816, died December 1873, married 12 March 1839, Elizabeth Taylor, born about 1825, died after 1880.

 II. George Aull, married Mary Margaret Minick, born about 1774, daughter of George Bartholomew (William) Minick and Mary Magdalene Summer.  George Aull died prior to 1838. In that year, Mary Magdalene Aull, widow, gave to daughter, Mary and husband, Andrew Kunkle, her real and property estate except one cow and calf which was to be given to daughter, Catherine Aull  (Lexington Deeds P-129).

A. William All, born 22 June 1799, died 17 December 1880, married Roseanna Kunkle, born 2 March 1804, died 3 January 1887, daughter of Henry Kunkle,  Sr. and Catherine Aal. Baptismal sponsors of Christina All were George and  Margaret Ahl (St. Jacob's Church records). Moved to GA and both buried in the Old Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Henry County, GA.     5. John Harmon All, born 1 January 1829, died 26 May 1916, married 3 September 1855, Mary Ann Catherine Conkle, born 4 March 1839, died 1 January 1930, daughter of Henry Kunkle, Jr. and wife, Nancy Harry. Lived in Riverdale, GA.
    6. Polly All, born 30 August 1832, died 19 February 1902, married 8 January  1856, Patillo Brown.
    7. George Adam Alls, born 29 June 1835, died 7 February 1923, married 1) Kitty Hamilton, died 8 February 1877; married 2) 14 August 1877, Nancy Jane  White Brown, born 20 May 1849, died 2 April 1935, daughter of Abda White and Mary Ann Bradbury, and widow of Andrew Brown.George Adam All and second wife buried New Mt. B. Mary Magdalene Aull, born 9 August 1806, died 4 October 1889, married 1) John Lindler,born about 1800, died after 1830, son of Jacob Lindler,  Jr. and Sarah Eargle; married 2) David B. Lindler, born 6 December 1804, died 29 November 1883, son of Jacob Lindler, Jr. and Catherine Eargle. Buried  Lindler Cemetery #1.

 V. Rev. John Herman Aull, born 20 September 1786, died 27 May 1852, married 1) Christina Rikard, born 20 November 1795, died 13 December  1830, daughter of Michael Rikard and Margaret Eigleberger; married 2) Mrs. Eve Margaret Riser Werts, born 1792, died 1872, daughter of Martin Riser Sr.  and Christina Sease and widow of John Werts.
In 1810 Herman Aull bought land from John Lagrone which included the 100 acre  survey of 1765 to John Adolph Legrone (Newberry Deeds J-354). This land is southeast of St. Paul's Church and where Rev. Aull and first wife are buried  Herman Aull was initially a carpenter and brick mason and laid the foundation in 1817 for Bethlehem Church (Pomaria). Herman Aull became a licensed Lutheran Minister in 1831 and was ordained in 1835. Among churches served were St.  Mark's, Mt. Calvary, and St. James Churches.

 VI. Margaret (Peggy) Aull, born about 1791, died 28 May 1863, was the second wife of Jacob Cook, born about 1777, died 27 November 1834,  son of Jacob Cook and Rosanna Singley. Margaret Aull and Jacob Cook were married  22 August 1822 at the home of Rev. Harmon Aull
(Newberry Equity 1834, #23-3 and 25-2). She and her husband are buried at  the Cook Cemetery on the Sam Cook place near Prosperity.

A. James Caleb Cook, born 21 September 1823, died 8 February 1905, married Mary Ann Elizabeth Shealy, born 12 August 1837, died 25 August 1914, daughter of of John Adam Shealy and Harriet Kibler. Buried Mt. Pilgrim Lutheran Church  cemetery, Newberry County.
 B. Sarah D. Cook, born 28 April 1825, died 1 September 1893, married John A. Bedenbaugh, Sr., born 15 April 1823, died 20 February 1905, son of Adam  Bedenbaugh, Jr. and Mary (Polly) Kibler. About 1846, they moved to Edgefield (Saluda) County and are buried at St. Mark's Lutheran Church cemetery.
 C. Allen Anderson Cook, born 17 June 1827, died 4 August 1864, Richmond,  VA (CSA). He married Karen Happuch Schumpert, born 9 May 1929, died 18 June  1906, daughter of John Schumpert and Mary Smith.
 D. Samuel J. Cook, born 21 April 1830, killed 20 September 1863, Battle of Chickamauga, married Nancy Caroline Moore, born 8 May 1832, died 7 July 1913, daughter of Abram Moore and Elizabeth Brown. Both are buried at Prosperity Cemetery.
 E. Phillip Cook, born 1831, died 6 November 1862 (CSA).
