John George Cromer Family

Several immigrant families by the name of Kromer arrived in SC in the year 1752. A genealogy of three of these families has been compiled by Luther W. Hampton, Jr. and Eleanor C. Wicker ("The Cromer Family," 1993). These families may have been related but arrived on different ships and got bounty grants in different areas of the Dutch Fork.

The family of John George Kromer arrived in SC in 1752, coming on the Elizabeth. At that time he had a wife and three children: John Michael, age 10; George 6; and Andrew 15 mos. John George Kromer was awarded a 250 acre grant on Camping Cr. In 1768, after death of John George Kromer, wife, Christina paid taxes on the Camping Cr. bounty grant.

The son, John Michael Gromer, appears to have inherited the bounty grant of John George Kromer on Camping Cr. and in 1773 conveyed half of the grant to his brother, Andrew Cromer (Nby Deeds J473).
