John Heller Family

Johannes Heller, as a single man, arrived 15 January 1750 in Charleston on the ship "Greenwich", Captain Edward Randolph. On 8 November 1751, he received a land grant of 50 acres on Heller's Creek.   He married 26 September 1752, Esther Ott, born 1723, daughter of Melchior Ott and Gretchen Schmitts. Melchior Ott was born 1686 in Glorus, Switzerland and died 9 March 1758 in SC. Johannes Heller received an additional 300 acre grant in 1768 and he died about 1789.

The 300 acres tract was adjacent the original 50 acre bounty grant and is the site of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.

Known children of Johannes Heller:
I. Ann Heller born 1 January 1754
II. John Heller born about 1755/60 died 1790-91 married Catherine, previous wife of Johann Abraham Glymph.   Catherine married 3) Christian Ruff; and married  4) John Low.   John Heller served in the militia regiment of Col. Philemon Waters during the Revolutionary War.

A. John Heller, III, born about 1780, died 15 November 1857, married 1) Sarah Low, born about 1775/80, died before 15 February 1830, daughter of John Low; and married 2) in 1832, Mary Parrott, born 1795, died after 1861.

Children by Sarah Low:
1. Silas L. Heller, born 1803, died 1872, married Mary Lorick daughter of  Jacob and Mary Lorick.
2. David Heller, born 1805, died 1860
3. Hardy Heller, born 1810, died 5 January 1851, married Elizabeth ____. She had previously been the second wife of George Sligh, Jr., born 1785, died 1832.
4. Irene Heller, born 25 January 1812, died 19 February 1860, married  Michael David Cannon.
5. Nancy Heller, married Simeon Lake.
6. John Heller.
7. Joel B. Heller, born 1819, died 1 July 1894, married Eliza Adams.
8. Selina Heller, born 10 March 1821, married  1) 18 February 1842, Austin Taylor; married 2) _____ Greene.

Children by Mary Parrott:
9. Rebecca Heller, born 7 October 1834, married William McKay.
10. Elizabeth Heller, born 1836.

B. Catherine Heller, born about 1782, died about 1870/80, married 26 April 1798, John Henry Gallman, born about 1775/80, died about 1843/47, Union County, SC. They moved to Union County in 1817..

1. John Gallman, born  28 September 1802, married Nancy Lucas.
2. Daniel Gallman, born 17 February 1805, married Orry Gault.
3. George W. Gallman, born 1807, died 26 February 1842.
4. Henry Reuben Gallman, born 13 June 1810, married Cassa H. Johnson.
5. Christiane Elizabeth Gallman, born about 1811/15, married ____ Frey.
6. Lucinda Elizabeth Gallman, born 18 February 1816, married George Washington Gault.
7. Lemuel Giles Gallman, born 10 November 1821, married 12 January 1843, Rhoda Simmons Sharp born 21 March 1828.  Lemuel Giles Gallman was killed 6 May 1864 at the Battle of the Wilderness. (Marriage date and Rhoda's birthdate from John H. Gallman Bible Record)

C. Nancy Heller, born about 1788, died after 1848, married  Ira Shell, died 1821, son of Stephen Shell and Jane Ellis Shell. They moved to Union County in 1811. They had at least four daughters but only one was identified here.

1. Francis Shell, born 20 September 1816, died 2 March 1877, married James C. Harris, born 1813, died 9 March 1894.

D. Mary Heller, born about 1790, married David Cromer, died 19 February 1834 (his 1st wife was Christina Ruff). They moved to Madison County, AL.

III. Jacob Heller, born about 1760/65, died 1839, married Hannah Fry, born about 1765/74, died about 1820/30, daughter of Jacob Fry. Jacob Heller's will is dated 12 December 1835, he served in the militia regiment of Col. Philemon Waters during the Revolutionary War.

A. Elizabeth Heller, born about 1799, died 1826, married Zachariah Glymph son of Emmanuel and Rachel Glymph.

1. John Belton Glymph, born 1820, married Lavinia Rikard, served in Company F, 20th Regiment, CSA.

B. David Heller, born about 1800, died 1866, married Hannah Ruff, born about 1820 (She was previously married to John McMaster). They moved to Anderson County, SC in the late 1850's.

1. Micajah Bowman Heller.
2. Mary Ann Heller, born about 1847, married 17 September 1874, Andrew J. Graham.
3. Caroline Hannah Heller, born about 1853, married 12 October 1875, William Carroll.
4. Alice Heller, born about 1855.
5. Emma K. Heller, born about 1858.

C. John Heller, born 1801, died 26 February 1887, married Mary Cromer, daughter of Martin Cromer (She was previously married to John Ringer).

1. Nancy Heller, born about 1829.
2. Elizabeth Heller, born 1833, married  J. H. P. Cromer, born 6 July 1840, died 27 April 1915. He served in Company G, Holcombes Legion and was wounded at Second Battle of Manassas.

D. Mary Heller, unmarried schoolteacher, died 1843.
