Johann Georg Schmidtpeter Family

Johann Georg Schmidtpeter was born to Georg Schmidtpeter and Margaretha Heberlin on 28 October 1730, Wollnaertzhofen, Ettenstadt, Mittelfranken, Bavaria which is located a short distance south of Nuremberg, Germany and north of Munich. (Evangelical Lutheran Parish Registers of Ettenstaat, Bavaria held at archive in Regensberg, Vol. 676, page 46.),he died 23 February 1761 in Saxe Gotha, which is now Lexington County, SC (South Carolina Gazette, 26 April 1761). He and his wife, Caterin, born abt. 1734 in Ettenstadt, Mittelfranken, Bavaria, married sometime before 1751 and went to "the Carolina" in 1752according to the church records of Ettenstaat. They arrived from Rotterdam into Charleston, SC on 2 October 1752, having paid their own passage on the ship, Rowand and on 24 October 1752, George Smithpader filed a petition for a 100 acre headright of land. (SC Council Journal, Vol. III, page 451).

Caterin Smithpeter acted as Administratix of John George Smithpeter's estate in 1761 (Charleston PRV, Volume V, pp 7172, John G. Smithpeter). No records have been found to date to firmly establish what became of her after her husband's death. John George Smithpeter and wife, Caterin, had only one known child, John Michael Smithpeter.

John George Smith Pader claimed a 100 acre tract of land on the northside of the Saluda River (SC Plats, Volume V, 1753). In 1755, John George Smithbeader participated in the expedition for the garrisons at Fort Prince George and Fort Lowdoun in the Cherokees (SC

Magazine for Ancestral Research, Volume IV, Spring 1876, No. 2, page 116). Sometime after 1756, John George Smithpeter acquired 200 acres of land on the South side of the Saluda River, land that was sold to John Cleckly (Kleckley) by John Michael Smithpeter (SC Deeds, Charleston, Volume Y5, page 220,1778).

John Michael Smithpeter was born in 1753, Saxe Gotha, SC and died 5 April 1836 in Johnson County, TN (formerly Carter County). He married 1) Mary Katharine Kyle, born 1755 in Tyrone County, Ireland and died aft. 1823 in Johnson County, TN, d/o Robert Kyleand Betty Campbell. He married 2) Christena Miller Strevelstrust on 21 March 1815, born1766 in Carter County, TN and died abt. 18 April 1855 in Johnson County, TN. John Michael Smithpeter was a patriot of the American Revolution, serving between 1776 and 1778 (North Carolina Line #w3730; BLW 2600616053).
