Martin Singley Family

 

Martin Singley petitioned for bounty 23 Feb 1753 with wife & one child, Rosina, 6 wks. old. At that time he also  petitioned for bounty for his Mother-in-law, Regina Wagnar. These land grants were in Amelia township.

On 4 & 5 Aug 1761 the 300A land grant to Herman Noulfer was sold by the grantee to Martin Singley who released 150A of tract 27 & 28 June 1764 to Henry Kountz (Memorials 11:155). The 150A tract was the homeplace of Martin Singley's family and is on headwaters of Livingston's br. of Cannons Cr. and is just SE of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Martin Singley made will 15 March 1780, proven 1 March 1793 (Nby Wills A-163) leaving wife half of cleared land as long as she is single and at her death, 150A tract to son, Jacob Singley. A stipulation was that Jacob Singley was to pay to brother, Frederick Singley, 25 Pounds. Will mentions youngest dau. Elizabeth who was not of age in 1780 but does not mention other daughters. Wife, Setona Regina Singley, on 23 Feb 1793 relinquished administration on estate to son, Jacob Singley.

    II. Jacob Singley, b. about 1760, d. after 1830, m. Martha Sibella Kinard, b. about 1763, d. before 1830, dau. of Martin Kinard, Sr. and Mary Witt. During the Revolutionary War, Jacob Singley served in the State Militia under Capt. William Frederick Houseal.

    A. Rev. Martin Singley, d. 12 Jan 1858, age 76 yrs., m. Sophia A. Hope, d. 18 May 1858, age 71 yrs., dau. of Christian Hope and Mary Shealy. Buried in Singley Cemetery. Martin Singley was licensed to exhort and hold prayer meetings in 1840.
