Andrew Thomas Family

The family of Andreas Thomas arrived in SC in 1752, coming on the Upton. At that time Andreas Thomas had a wife and one child: George, age 6.  His 150 acre land grant on Crim's Creek was located near St. Paul's Church.

In 1785, an adjacent 200 acre tract was granted to Andrew Thomas. In 1804 and 1805, Andrew Thomas (wife Mary Agnes) sold off lands from the two grants (Newberry Deeds U-2, p. 210, and I-202, 368, and 371). In these deeds Andrew Thomas, the seller, is said to be the son of Andrew Thomas, the grantee.

  The name of Andrew Thomas is found on a Revolutionary War indent list of 1786.

  The household of Andrew Thomas in the 1790 census contained 1 male over 16, three males under 16, and three white females. The household of Andrew Thomas in the 1800 census contained 2 males under 10, 1 male 10-16, 2 females under 10, 1 female 10-16, and parents, age 26-45.

I. George Thomas, born about 1746.
II. Andrew Thomas, Jr., born about 1759. Wife found in dower signatures as Mary Agnes from 1804 to 1812. According to tradition, Sarah was the name of the wife of Andrew Thomas, Jr. Mary Agnes Thomas is believed to have been a daughter of Michael Rickard, Sr.  In 1812, Andrew and Agnis Thomas were baptismal sponsors of David Rikard, son of Adam Rikard and wife Mary Magdalene (St. Luke's Lutheran Church records). Adam Rikard was a son of Michael Rikard, Sr.

  In 1796, Andrew Thomas witnessed the will of George Eigleberger, and in 1800, as a neighbor, witnessed the will of Jacob Frye.  After 1805, Andrew Thomas had business relations with people who lived in the Saluda River section of Newberry County, SC.

  In 1820, Andrew Thomas was living in Shelby County, AL. In the same year, he obtained a land grant in Perry County, AL, moving there shortly afterward. In 1831, he gave this land to son, John Thomas, Jr. (Perry County, AL Deeds B-166). This land was near Mt. Herman Methodist Church.  Andrew Thomas, Jr. and his wife are buried in unmarked graves on the land for which they obtained a land patent.

A. John Thomas, son of Andrew Thomas, married Dempsey Pool, daughter of John Pool, Rev. Soldier. John Pool and wife and four of his family were among organizers in 1819 of Hebron Baptist Church in Shelby County.  Both are buried in the Mt. Herman Methodist Church Cemetery, Hale County, AL.  John Thomas is buried next to Frederick Shaffer. They had 13 children. James Thomas (Civil War Soldier) was their first child.

1. James Thomas born 25 January 1821 , died December 14, 1863, Atlanta, Fulton County, GA, was brought back to his home and was buried in the Mt. Herman Methodist Church Cemetery, Hale County, AL. He married 2 December, 1841 in Morgan Springs, Perry County, AL, Rebecca Ann Russell born 20 March 1820, died 5 October 1903, daughter of Andrew Russell and Martha Stewart. All children born in Perry County, AL.

g. Susan Jane Thomas born 6 February1859, died 4 October 1891, West Point, Clay County, MS; married 12 April 1873, West Point, Clay County, MS,  Robert Ivey Kornegay born 1850. Susan is buried at Greenwood Cemetery, West Point, MS.

Allen Thomas born 31 December 1822, died 10 April 1900 Perry County, AL, married 15 June, 1846 in Providence Church, Perry County, AL, Lucinda Russell born 3 November 1827 died 21 April 1913, daughter of Andrew Russell and Martha Stewart. III. Mary Sebe Thomas. Mary Sebe Thomas was the wife of John Coon in 1793. They were the God parents of John Monts, born 11 December 1793, son of Gosper Monts and Anna Mary Minick ("Vital Data from SC German Fraktur," SCMAR  X(1):11, 1982). (From Bible Record of John Monts---John Monts was born in the year 1793 the 11th of December, his God father, John Coon and his Wife, Mary Sebe a born Thomas)

  Was Mary Sebe Thomas the wife of John Koon, born 14 November 1762, son of  John  Kuhn and Maria Ursula Shealy?  In 1798, there was a John Koon that was married to Margaret Cromer, daughter of Frederick Cromer and wife Sybella.

IV. Susannah Margarita Thomas was the wife of George Adam Summer, Sr., born 1760, died 1833, son of John Adam Summer, Sr.

B. Susannah Margaret Summer, born 1785, died after 1860, married  John Hipp, born 1773, died 31 October 1848, son of  John Hipp and wife, Susanna.
C. George Adam Summer, Jr., said to have married a Miss Penny.
D. Andrew Summer, born 21 October 1793, died 18 July 1838, married 2) Christina Epting, born about 1798, died June 1858, daughter of  Adam Epting and Elizabeth Counts.

H. Adam Ellisor, born 1810, died 1847, married 1829, Mary Ann Turnipseed, died August
