Martin Whites Family

Martin Whites is shown on plats of early surveys to have owned land near Spring Hill as early as 1787. A Lexington County deed
(M-132) involves sale of a nearby tract in 1837 from Martin Whites to George Whites.

Martin Whites/Wites, born about 1775, died 1850, mother named Mary or Margaret Whites. Martin's wife born about 1779, died about 1820. They lived in the Spring Hill area of Lexington District and are buried in the Whites Family Cemetery on their Old Home Place near Spring Hill, S.C.

Children:
I. Jacob D. Whites, born 1800, died 1884, Betheden Community, married 1825, Elizabeth Koon, born 1805. All their children were born in Spring Hill area. They moved to Winston County, MS and lived in the Betheden Community.

A. George Whites, born 26 December 1826, died 25 January 1899, in father's home, Betheden Community, Winston County, MS. Never married.
B. William Whites, born 13 March 1831, died Betheden Community, Winston County, MS, married Tener Kinard, died about 1861.
C. Mary Whites, born May 1835, lived in fathers home in Betheden Community, Winston County, MS. until she died unknown.  Never married.
D. David Whites, born about 1836, died Princeton, VA. of pneumonia while in service of CSA.
E. Rebecca Whites, born 28 March 1838, died 9 June 1811, married about 1874, Henry Kinard. Lived in Betheden Community, Winston County, MS.
F. Thomas Whites, born about 1840.
G. Godfrey J. Whites, born 1841, died February 1862, in battle of Ft. Donelson, TN. in service of CSA.
H.. Magdalene Whites, born 1844. Never married.
I. Catherine Whites, born about 1847. Never married.

II. George Washington Whites, born about 1805, died 1853, Spring Hill area, married by Rev. Godfrey Dreher to Catherine V. Meetze, born 1808 (daughter of Peter Meetze and wife, Mary).

A. Solomon Henry Whites, born 12 September 1829, died 14 November 1862, of Yellow Fever contracted while in service of CSA, buried in Whites Family Cemetery, Old Whites Home Place, Spring Hill, Lexington County, S.C.; married  Elizabeth Koon, born 24 February 1824, died 14 December 1915, daughter of John Henry Koon and Mary Magdelene (Molly) Eargle, buried in St. Jacobs Lutheran Church Cemetery, Chapin, SC.
B. Elijah M. Whites, born 1834, died 1894, Grant County, AR, married 1) about 1848, Spring Hill area, Lucinda R. Richardson, died 1860. Probably buried in the Whites Family Cemetery; married 2) about 1870, Mary Magdalene Koon, born 1850, daughter of James Daniel Koon and Eve Margaret (Peggy) Eargle. Moved to Grant County, AR
C. Joseph D. Whites, born 1838, died 6 May 1864, Battle of Wilderness, VA
D. Elias Abel Whites, born 1842, died 5 July 1864, Stuart Hospital, Richmond VA (of wounds received in Battle of Cold Harbor, VA). Buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Richmond, VA.

III. Elizabeth Whites. born 1809, died October 1849. Buried Whites Cemetery, Spring Hill, Lexington District, SC Never married.
IV. Mary Magdalene Whites, born 1810. died 9 June 1993, buried Whites Family Cemetery, Spring Hill. Never married.
V. William Edward Whites, born 9 September 1811, died 1871 Winston County, MS, married  20 November 1844, by Rev. Godfrey Dreher, to Mary Ann Leaphart, born about 1822, died 31 January 1914. William and Mary buried in Family Cemetery at Old Home Place in Winston County, MS.

A. Benjamin A. Whites, born 1846. Moved with family to Winston County, MS in about 1854. Enlisted in CSA 15 April 1862., died Gainesville, GA, 30 July 1862. Military records show him absent, sick in the period of 25 March - 30 June 1962. Buried Family Cemetery, Winston County, MS.
B. Martha J. Whites, born 1849, died about 1862, Betheden Community, Winston County, MS
C. Pierce Butler Whites, born 28 February 1855, Betheden Community, Winston County, MS., died 8 March 1940, Louisville, Winston County, MS; married 14 December 1882, Mary Ann Hull. Pierce was Justice of the Peace for 53 years in Winston County.  He and wife Mary Ann are buried in Betheden Lutheran Cemetery, Winston County, MS.
D. James Jefferson Whites, born 2 June 1857, Betheden Community, Winston County, MS, died 22  January 1951, married 1 January 1885, Jennie Elizabeth Livingston. Both are buried in Pilots Knob Cemetery, Pilots Knob, MO.
E. Franklin George Whites, born 22 October 1859, Betheden Community, Winston County, MS, died 20 August 1925, Betheden Community, Winston County, MS.; married  20 December 1890, Ora Eugenia Kinard, died 1968. They are buried in Betheden Lutheran Cemetery, Winston County, MS.

VI. John V. Whites, born about 1816, Spring Hill, Lexington District, SC, died before 1875; married 1) 10 December 1837, Mary Shealy, died 1846 and is buried in Prosperity Cemetery, SC

A. Uriah Benson Whites, born 1838, died 1906, married Suzannah Josephine Feagle. Both Uriah and Josephine are buried in Prosperity Cemetery, S.C.
B. John A. Whites, born 1841, buried Prosperity Cemetery, SC.
C. Thomas J. Whites, born 1842.
D. George Silas Whites, born May 1845, wife named Nannie Ella ____, born 1847.
E. Luther P. Whites, born 1847.
F. Henry Melvin Whites, born 1849, died about 1925, first wife named Belle ____, died Milam County, TX; married  2) Mary Agnes Morrison in Pine Bluff, AR., died about 1925, Milam County, TX.
