JACOB COOK FAMILY
The Cook family of the Dutch Fork is presumed to be of German origin. Their earliest records date to 1766. The petitions of Jacob and Bastian Cook for bounty land surveys in SC were heard at the Colonial Council meeting of 2 Sept 1766.
In the following year a 150 acre survey was made for Jacob Cook located near present day Prosperity, SC. Bastian Cook's warrant of 1766 expired and on 2 March 1773 he again petitioned for bounty and obtained a 100 acre survey adjacent the land grant of Jacob Cook. Martin and Jacob Cook later owned and lived on these two grants. In 1794, Martin Cook sold half of both grants to Jacob Cook (Nby Deeds D-2, p. 196).
Martin and Jacob Cook married Kinard sisters who are believed to be daughters of Mathias Kinard, Sr. A deed of 1775 involves the sale of land by Sebastian Kock and wife, Rosannah, to William Summer (SC Magazine of Ancestral Research Vol 11, p. 10, 1983). Land had been previously granted to her as Rosannah Singling. She was born about 1752, the daughter of the immigrant Martin Singley.
Both Jacob and Sebastian Cook were in Capt. Robert Pearis' Co., SC Royalists, at Savannah, GA (M. J. Clark, "Loyalists in the Southern Campaign of the Rev. War," Vol. 1, p. 23). Sebastian (as "Boston") Cook died on 1 December 1779 during the tour of duty.
An autobiography of Joseph Jasper Getsinger, a Baptist Minister, tells of his grandparents, Joseph Getsinger and Margaret Cook (Dutch Fork Digest, 4(2):21, 1989). He calls his grandmother Mary Cook, stating that she was the daughter of Jacob Cook, a farmer, who lived near Prosperity, SC. He goes on to tell that she had a brother Jacob Cook who had left family near Prosperity.
The family of Jacob Cook is described by Wendell H. Cook, Jr. in "Passage to the Present: The Story of a Southern Family" (1997).

According to the autobiography of Joseph Jasper Getsinger (1835-1905), his grandfather, Joseph Getsinger, married a daughter of Jacob Cook, Sr. Joseph Getsinger (Kitsinger), enlisted in 1777 during the Revolutionary War, 3rd Regt. (B. C. Moss, "Roster of S.C. Patriots in the American Revolution," p. 541). He was listed as a prisoner on 29 Dec 1778. In 1789, Joseph Kitcinger obtained a 64 acre tract near Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Pomaria, which was sold by Joseph and Margarith Getsinger in 1796 (Nby Deeds E-238).
