Jesse McCarthy Family

    Jesse McCarthy b. ca 1780 d. ca 1866, m. 1) Barbara Boland, d. ca 1814, d/o John Boland & __Feltman; m. 2), ca 1812/13, ? Bickley/Wessinger; m. 3) 18 May 1826, Nancy Anna (Annie) Weed. Jesse and Annie & several children are buried under the waters of Lake Murray, in cemetery #150 Coogler Graveyard. (Lake Murray Cemetery Records, property of Backman Amick at time of Lake Murray development).

Jesse's second wife could have been a Bickley, he owned land formerly owned by Jacob Bickley; also mentioned the Bounty land in his will.

• B. Mary Ann Margaret McCartha, b. 13 Nov 1843, d. 14 Jul 1903, m. 1) Jacob T. Crout, b. ca 1838, d. 19 Oct 1864, s/o Thomas and Elizabeth Hallman Crout; he served CSA, Pvt. 20th SC Inf, Co. K, was wounded at Strasburg, VA on 13 Oct 1864 and d. at Mt. Jackson, VA hospital on 19 Oct 1864. He is bur. at Mt. Jackson, VA (near Woodstock, VA) on the 20th row (Crout Family, p. 40 & 256). Mary Ann m. 2) G. Alexander Meetze. Mary is bur. Bethlehem (Black Creek) Lutheran Church, Leesville, SC. - G. Alexander (Aleck) Meetze, b. 8 Feb 1843, d. 18 Feb 1893; he is bur. with his first wife at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Lexington, SC, s/o Henry and Caroline Elizabeth Dreher Meetze.

• C. Martha Frances McCartha, b. 7 Oct 1845, d. 25 Jan 1923, m. 10 Feb 1887, George Washington Lewis, b. 28 Aug 1845, d. 4 Aug 1931, Confederate Soldiers Home, Columbia, SC s/o James R. Lewis and Margaret (Peggy) Smith. Both are bur. at Pond Branch United Methodist Church, Gilbert, SC; no issue, however she helped rear the children by his first marriage to Rachel King.

IV. Lovelia (McCartha) Cartha, m. Harrison Dominick Stockman, b. 8 Oct 1815, d. 9 Oct 1882, s/o John Peter & Catherine Dominick Haupt/Hope Stockman; bur. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Prosperity, SC. There is no proof of this being a d/o Jesse McCartha, however, she would be within the age bracket to a sister of Michael and John David. It is possible that the pronunciation was not clear (Can anyone clarify?)

• C. Mary Jane McCartha, b. 6 May 1855, d. 25 May 1921, m. Paul Washington Addy, b. 4 Apr 1851, d. 8 Feb 1931. Both bur. St. Jacobs Lutheran Church, Chapin, SC. Nine children listed in the 1910 Census however, we only obtained information on five.

James Silas McCartha, b. 3 Apr 1859, d. 15 Nov 1942, m. 1) Mary Cummings Derrick, b. 23 Oct 1856, d. 8 May 1905, d/o Solomon and Anna Elizabeth Monts Derrick; m. 2) Anna Barbara Wessinger, b. 16 Apr 1874, d. 16 Feb 1926, d/o J. Austin and Eady Ann Shealy Wessinger; there were five children by first marriage and two by the second. All three are bur. at Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery, White Rock, SC.
