Dr. Carl W. 'Woody' Nichols, Jr., 68, of Atlanta, GA died Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the Dekalb Medical Center. He was born in Abbeville, SC to Josephine Raines Nichols and the late Carl W. Nichols, Sr.
Dr. Nichols was a graduate of Erskine College and Emory Medical University. He worked for numerous hospitals in the Atlanta area and recently retired from Lab Corp after many dedicated years of service as a Pathologist. He was an accomplished pianist and longtime patron of the Atlanta Sympathy Orchestra and the Atlanta Opera.
Surviving Dr. Nichols is his mother Josephine Nichols of Abbeville; a special friend of 44 years Muriel Matthews of Atlanta; and a host of cousins and close friends.
The family will receive friends from 2:00PM to 3:00PM Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Harris Funeral Home in Abbeville, SC. Funeral services will begin at 3:30 pm on Sunday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. John Keith officiating. Burial will follow in Melrose Cemetery.
